Fancy's on 5th is an Oyster Dive + Burger Bar located in the heart of Avondale, across from Avondale Park. We are named in honor of Miss Fancy the elephant, the main attraction & mascot of the 1920s Avondale Zoo, Our mascot is Octavius the Octopus, who happily watches over Fancy’s & her guests. You can find him in two locations, perched in neon purple over the bar and looming above the mafia booth dressed in Iron and Edison lights.
We opened Fancy’s in 2016 with the desire to be everything you love about your favorite neighborhood dive, but taken to a new level. We joke that there is nothing fancy about this place except the name. This is why we kept the rustic exposed brick walls, original ceilings & tiles. We have also used locally sourced wood with every opportunity.
Fancy’s is casual, charming and comfortable, just like the neighborhood of Avondale.. We strive to make our guests feel at home. Our experienced & knowledgeable staff are here to make sure you have the experience you deserve. We proudly serve our “fancy” food & drinks without any pretentiousness. We encourage questions and guest interaction, they are an integral part of our personalized service.
We designed Fancy’s to be the kind of restaurant that has something for everyone. This is one of the reasons we love Avondale so much. On any given day, you see one of every kind of person walking around. It is a city within itself, and a very loving and strong community. Eat, live and be local. We firmly believe that if we support the community, it will support us.

Executive Chef
Chef Bolton, from Springville, Alabama, grew up cooking barbecue with his family, and eventually took over the kitchen at his dad’s hometown BBQ restaurant. After putting in his time there, he worked his way into the thriving Birmingham restaurant scene. With kitchens such as 26 and Primeaux under his belt, he moved into his role as Chef de Cuisine at Ocean. After five years here, he moved to Tuscaloosa where he was the executive chef at River restaurant in Tuscaloosa. Cory also co-hosts Chunks, a cooking show produced by Allrecipes for YouTube and other platforms. These days, you can find Chef Cory in the Fancy's kitchen living his best life and managing the Fancy’s zoo. He has a playful personality with a tough Chef attitude!
